Thomas Ian Nicholas is "The Kid"

Carrie: Congratulations, Thomas! tell me, what is The Kid in king Arthir's Court about? Is it a historical movie?

Thomas: Well, it's present-day at the begginning, and then the kid, Calvin, who I play, goes back as himself into medieval times.

Carrie: For our readers, the medieval era, also known as the Middle Ages, took place a long time ago, between about the year 500 and the year 1450! So, does this mean your movie is a time-travel story?

Thomas: Yeah. But I don't want to give too much away.

Carrie: Okay, I won't press you for more plot details. But can you tell me what Calvin is like?
Thomas: He is a lot like me. I think that was the deciding factor [that made the director and producer] choose me. When I talked to the director after I had gotten the part, he just wanted to make sure that I would be myself throughout the whole film.

Carrie: What was your audition like?

Thomas: The first time, I met with the director and producer. It was, like, a general meeting. They asked me some questions, gave me the script and they were like, "We want you to finish reading the script and get back to us and tell us what you think." So, after reading, I told my manager to call and tell them everything was great and I really enjoyed the script, the style of the writing, and the character. And then I went in the next Wednesday, and I read some scenes with the casting assistant, and that was it.

Carrie: Was anyoneyou know also up for the part?

Thomas: Yeah, a friend of mine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was just in Angels in the Outfield; Garette Ratliff Henson [from D2] and that kid from Last Action Hero, um...

Carrie: Austin O'Brien?

Thomas: Yeah, I had just met him at the All-Star Baseball night [at L.A.'s Dodger Stadium] last year. There were a few other people, too, bit I didn't really look. I didn't want to say, "I am up against these people," I just went in there and worried about myself.

Carrie: It worked out well, then, that you're going to do independent study this year instead of going to regular ninth grade, huh?

Thomas: Yeah, it will be a lot easier. I am going to get my work and books and everything [before I leave].

Carrie: It sounds like you have everything under control. Good Luck, Thomas, and let us know when you come back!

thomas: Okay, Thanks, I will.
