Thomas: Not Perfect and Fine With It
We first got a glimpse into Thomas' easygoing personality a while back, when we talked to him for a story on depression. Like every other teen in the universe, Thomas, who turned 14 on July 10, told us he has experienced those typical teenage ups and downs. "It's a confusing time- I know," was how he put it.
But instead of feeling bad about feeling bad, Thom says he takes those low points as justa normal part of life. And he doesn't expect things to be perfect all the time.
"Not everyone is happy 24 hours a day, seven days a week," says Thomas. "But if I'm a little down, I try to dwell more on the positive rather than the negative."
It's true- every time we see him, Thomas is happy and positive. And apparently, it isn't all an act. He applies this easygoing approach toward lots of areas of his life.
Take another of the more, uh, sucky things to wreak havoc on the lives of all of us: Zits.
As you've probably noticed, Thomas has quite the lovely complexion. But that's not to say he hasn't broken out at one time or another. What does Thomas do during these times? He faces the world with his trademark smile, anyway.
As far as Thom is concerned, it would be great to have perfect skin, but that's just not realistic. Besides, as he emphasizes, the stste of one's complexion isn't exactly the most important thing in the world.
"It is not really a big deal with me," says Thomas. "Most of the timeat my school, it's not like people make fun of you or anything if you have an acne problem. It's just a way of life at this time. It's the way things go. For me, it doesn't really matter." After all, he knows that if he gets a pimple, it will go away eventually.
Thom's cool attitude goes beyond the way he feels and acts. It also affects the way he looks at the world.
Take something as simple as watching a movie. Thomas admits that he used to pick films apart, spending his movie time, looking for things that weren't perfect, which is especially easy to do if you're involved in the movie buisness yourself.
But now, when he plops down in that theater seat, he's there to simply enjoy. "After a while, when you nitpick the movies, you find all the flaws in them. And every movie has a flaw," Thomas points out. "Now, I end up going to movies thinking 'I'm just a regular person, and I'm just going to watch this. I am not going to analyze this as an actor.' I finally learned to stop doing that."
